Who we are

We are the Interprovincial Crossing Committee of the Convent Glen - Orléans Wood Community Association (the “Bridge Committee”).

Our Purpose and Position

Our purpose is to raise awareness about the proposed construction of an interprovincial bridge in the east end of Ottawa and the possible consequences, in order to put pressure on the federal government to stop the project.

It is our position that: 

• Most of the stated justifications for the project remain unproven.

• The proposed bridge locations will increase traffic congestion on the already overburdened 417 and 174 highway routes, resulting in longer commute times for east-end residents.

• Based on the “Refresh Study”, neither bridge in the Greenbelt is a good option nor solves the truck issue, with truck traffic reductions of only 10% and 5% respectively. 

• We strongly oppose the construction of any bridge in the Greenbelt because of the impact on: 

  • environment

  • ecology

  • budgets

  • community health.
